Playing a Les Paul Guitar at Garage Band U

We offer both group and private lessons.  Group lessons are specific to the Rock Bands that we help create.  We group musicians based on age and talent.   Band size is important to us so that everyone is heavily included in each 'practice' session.  During these sessions, students will decide songs together to help retain interest and allow students to perform pieces that they are passionate about.  There are typically 4 sessions each year that run 10 to 12 weeks with a professional performance at the end.

James Digirolamo - Music Director

Guitar and Bass Teacher

James has performed professionally for more than 30 years, with extensive experience in upright and electric bass and guitar. He studied at DePaul University's School of Jazz Music and privately with Larry Gray, who plays bass with Ramsey Lewis.

As a jobbing musician, he has done radio and television jingles, studio session work, a great deal of pit work and many orchestral performances, including Chicago's Orchestra Hall, the Chicago Children's Choir and several seasons with The Paducah Symphony Orchestra.

Tom Sanchez - Instructor

Guitar and Ukulele Teacher

Tom Sanchez began playing guitar at age 9. Born and raised in a suburb of Chicago, Tom was quickly drawn to the blues and early blues-influenced rock. After performing with a handful of bands during high school it was off to Berklee College of Music where Sanchez graduated with a Degree in Music specializing in Music Production and Engineering. Once again making his home in Chicago, Sanchez began working as recording engineer and quickly developed a reputation as an in-demand studio guitarist. While in Chicago Tom has played in many bands, most notably Liquid Soul, Soulvitamins and Kevin Purcell and the Nightburners.

Jamie Curulewski - Owner

Owner of Garage Band U - Music School

Jamie has been involved in music his entire life. His father was a founding member of Styx and went on to teach lessons and open a recording studio.  Growing up with this experience has instilled a deep love for the art.  He has worked in several corporate jobs in the Marketing industry, but the passion for music has always been there.  Jamie's daughter joined Garage Band U several years ago.   Working with James was an excellent experience for her and her friends.  Seeing this passion continue in the family pushed Jamie to get involved to help bring this experience to more children and adults that want to perform in the area.
